Recognising the fact that the youth sector is the future bearer of stable democratic societies in the region as well as in the world, and realizing that all present and possible future burning issues can be dealt with only through mutual respect, understanding and learning, an idea about fresh and enthusiastic organization was born.
World Youth Wave was founded on October 24, 2005, as a non-party, non-governmental and non-profit organisation. The organisation was established with the following goals:
- Strengthening the youth sector in Serbia - promoting and supporting involvement of youth on the Serbian public scene
- Promoting and encouraging student and youth projects, ideas and experiences in culture and education
- Improving communication among students and youth in the country and across Europe
- Setting the basis for a long-term and established co-operation between the participating organisations - promoting closer regional cultural cooperation and interethnic dialogue between youth and student NGOs in the different countries of SEE
- Promoting the values of mutual respect and understanding as well as need to fight against prejudice, racism and xenophobia through processes of cultural exchange and intercultural learning among young people
- Cooperating and networking with organizations of similar orientation and other relevant institutions in the eve of regional and overall European integration and unification.
The central project of World Youth Wave is International Student Week in Belgrade, which has been organized twice, in 2006 and 2007. ISWiB 2007 has gathered over 150 students from all over Europe who participated in variety of workshops, panel discussions and lectures, covering fields of economics, education, art, culture and ecology. Beside ISWiB, WYW runs another successful project - international web magazine for students, Wave Magazine. Also, WYW was establisher of Erasmus Student Network Section in Belgrade, and was organizer of Erasmus Day in April 2007.
Through each of the projects that World Youth Wave has launched so far, especially ISWiB as the most comprehensive of all, our organization has promoted in practice the objectives that has promised it would stand for.
